Leveraging the Opportunity of Adolescence to Support At-Promise Students
Adolescence–approximately ages 10 to 25–is a period of development in which we are primed to make new connections and contribute to our communities. This makes adolescence a key window for learning and discovery as well as an opportunity to mitigate the effects of earlier adversity. Join the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent as they share practical insights from adolescent development research, including the neuroscience underlying the rapid learning and connections that occur during this age. Together, we'll consider how we can equitably support the developmental needs of our young people as they build the connections they need to thrive into adulthood.
Presenter Andrew J. Fuligni, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Psychology and the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA and Co-Executive Director of the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent. He is also Senior Scientist at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and Director of the Adolescent Development Lab at UCLA. Andrew’s research examines the interaction between sociocultural experiences and biobehavioral development among adolescents from diverse ethnic, immigrant, and economic backgrounds, with a current focus on youth’s prosocial behavior, contributions to their social worlds, and sleep.
